ADC and GWS Giants announce 3 year partnership

Australian Diabetes Council and GWS GIANTS team up to tackle diabetes

3 May 2012 - Today Australian Diabetes Council and GWS GIANTS publically announce an important three year partnership to tackle diabetes in the state’s Diabetes Capital - Western Sydney.

Western Sydney has the highest prevalence of diabetes in NSW, with 7 out of the state’s top ten hotspots for diabetes located in the area. In fact, between 2005 and 2010 the rate of diabetes in Western Sydney has more than doubled.GWS GIANTS and Australian Diabetes Council will be coming together with a shared commitment to the communities of greater western Sydney.

Australian Diabetes Council Welcomes Changes to Carers Allowance

3 August 2011 – The Federal Government has today announced that the Carer Allowance will be increased to cover children with type 1 diabetes up to 16 years of age. This signifies a major breakthrough for children living with this condition and will enable their carers to better manage their treatment.

The decision has been welcomed by Australian Diabetes Council who together with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, has been consistently advocating for amendments to this allowance for over a decade.

Nicola Stokes, Chief Executive Officer of Australian Diabetes Council, said the increase to the Carer Allowance has been a significant win for children living with type 1 diabetes and their families. “Australian Diabetes Council has been advocating for this change for 15 years.
We are excited about the positive impact this will have on the lives of thousands of children with type 1 diabetes, and the people who look after them.”
