Elizabeth celebrates 104 years

Elizabeth WebsterType 2 diabetes hasn’t stopped 104-year-old Elizabeth Webster from enjoying her life!
Elizabeth was diagnosed with diabetes at 80 years old, while she was in hospital being treated for bronchitis.

Unperturbed by the diagnosis, Elizabeth made some changes to her diet and was determined to not allow diabetes to get her down. Later on, Elizabeth needed medication to control her diabetes and eventually went onto insulin – continuing to live life to the fullest.

Whilst on tablets to control her diabetes, Elizabeth travelled with her cousin to Scotland, her country of origin. At age 98 she travelled to Sweden to visit her daughter. Closer to home, she has visited Coffs Harbour many times.

Elizabeth has coped well with 17 years of insulin injections and went into a North Manly Nursing Home three years ago at the age of 101. The meals served to Elizabeth are diabetes friendly, and this has aided her management. She really enjoys her favourite meal breakfast, when she eats porridge and eggs.

Even suffering a broken hip after a fall just before her 102nd birthday didn’t stop Elizabeth. She spent just five days in hospital before returning to the nursing home.

Elizabeth is the eldest of 11 children and has never considered diabetes to be an intrusion on her life. What a remarkable lady and inspiration to us all, it just goes to show what having the right attitude can do!
